October or ROCKTOBER, as it has become known in music circles, is the month that the music fraternity pays homage to the great legends of Rock and popular radio stations play rock music throughout the whole of Rocktober. Moonshine Productions has decided to join these celebrations by hosting its own ROCKTOBERT FEST on 6th October 2006, featuring five of the best rock outfits on the current local circuit. All five these outfits play solid hardcore Rock music and are amongst the favourites with the country's local rock supporters.

The exciting line up for this year's ROCKTOBER FEST will be Pretoria rockers Duck & Cover, WALT, legendary Jack Hammer, Cape Town rockers Akkedis and from Molteno, Eastern Cape originally, but now our Jo'burg based rockers; Southern Gypsey Queen. MC for the evening will be Irene Fisher from TUKS FM.

Moonshine Productions (Pty) Ltd is a production company established in January 2006 to support and promote local music talent. On Saturday 25th February 2006 the first successful Moonshine Productions event was launched at a festival at the Foundry Fly Lounge in Pretoria East; “A Good Friend of Mine - Tribute to Piet Botha”. This prestigious event hosted 15 of South Africa's current premier music acts and paid homage to one the great legends of South African music.

WALT: Walt is a 4-piece alternative rock outfit from Pretoria, formed in 2003 comprising of members Erwalt de Beer (vocals / guitar), MJ Oosthuizen (drums), Jan Wolmarans (bass guitar), Willem du Plessis (lead guitar / harmonies). Erwalt de Beer, who started recording music under the name Walt in 2002, formed the band shortly afterwards. Their music style is very unique and influences vary from Creed, Seether, Nirvana, Bush, Radiohead and Staind. The band's live performance projects loads of energy on stage, which keeps the crowd alive and invites incredible audience interaction.

DUCK & COVER: Rockers Duck & Cover are amongst Pretoria's favourite sons and this great band was formed five years ago. The band consists of the talented Jaco Mans (lead guitar, vocals), Francois Coetzee (bass guitar), Nathan Smit (drums), Justin Smit (vocals, guitar). Their roots are in hardcore rock and they have been wooing rock fans all over the country with their music. Duck & Cover closed off the show at “A Good Friend of Mine” - Tribute to Piet Botha and Jaco has recently shared the stage as lead guitarist for Jack Hammer at two gigs in Pretoria. Duck & Cover's brand new CD has already hit the charts on radio and television.

AKKEDIS: From Somerset West are Boland rockers Akkedis. This Cape outfit has been rocking the local music scene since 1991. The band consists of Arthur Dennis (lead guitar, vocals), Rudi Dennis (drums, vocals) and new member A.J. Graham (bass guitar). Akkedis also performed at “A Good Friend of Mine” - Tribute to Piet Botha and was invited to perform at the Subterranean Rhythm & Blue Experience in Ponta Malongane Mozambique in May 2006. Their third CD "Vir Volk en Vaderland" was released earlier this year.

SOUTHERN GYPSEY QUEEN: Originally from Molteno in the Eastern Cape, but now based in Jo'burg, the band's influences are rock legends such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, ACDC etc. Solid blues-rock is this band's forte and they've been labeled in music circles as one of the most exciting acts on the current rock circuit. The band is Gareth Wilson (lead guitar, vocals) Tammy Wilson (bass guitar, vocals) Thys Smit (lead guitar) and Paul Wilson (drums, vocals). SGQ also performed at “A Good Friend of Mine - Piet Botha Tribute”.

JACK HAMMER: Pretoria legends Jack Hammer have been rocking the 'rock 'n roll' highway in this country for the past 22 years. Spearheaded by the wizard Piet 'The Hammer' Botha (lead gui-tar, vocals), Paul "The Duke" Van de Waal (drums), Tertius (Beankovzski) du Plessis (bass guitar), Tonie (The Hurricane) van der Walt (guitar, vocals) and latest addition to the band, Lise Wiid (key-boards). In May this year SAMA awarded a Life Long Achievement Award to Piet, for his contribution to South African music over the past 30 odd years. Jack Hammer will be a fitting closure to the ROCKTOBER FEST celebrations, which promises to be one of the country's best rock music events of the year.

There will also be these rocking T-Shirts available at the event for R100 each.
